The show started out better than other shows. Even thought it contained some Indian serial tropes, it was far better than any other shows. It didn't stopped showing or teaching how vile bad superstitions are, Gender equality which this show's main idea; Heck they even had comparatively good character development for main characters in this show which we rarely get to see in today's serials.

The two protagonists got married with a huge age gap where the girl was 8 years old and man -around 20+ years old because the girl was going to get burned alive in the name of sati. The show had set a platonic relationship between the protagonists which further developed as a student-teacher if not brother-sister relationship. There was little increase on serial trope like Saas bahu trope but still was comparatively good.

But something happen that destroyed the show. The show started to give hints of their relationship developing into romantic one but I ignored them. The show was starting to crumble but the breaking point comes after the time-skip. They made Protagonists´ relationship platonic. The show started to degrade slowly afterwards and now, it´s current focus is relationship of two protagonists. 

As they are in love now, They are shifting towards perfect bahu where now Bondita (the woman) has to prove herself to family that she has worth it. It is not just that trope. There are other problem that are harmful. There are Lack of communication which is a key of relationships not only romantic but in every one of them, over dramatization, treating women equality as a big deal which is very hard; annoying edits, idiotic senarios, bad representation of bengal, Unusual speaking of bondita, too much unrealism*, messed up timeline**, and many -many more



*Brown girl at that time becomes a full on barrister at the age of 18 in America.(the year black slavery ended)

**Gandhi was not even born during 1833 which the story is supposed to happen. (birth date of Gandhi was october 2, 1869)

Why is indian serial addictive?

Indian serials are targeted to traditional family members. The producers have realized that giving viewers old ideas and things that they like to see are more easier then introducing them to a new one. The whole process of making a serial is to make money so they don't care to create. And more accurately, support a proper show because of risk failure. They went to a short cut by showing them same story. Because of the type of content being fed to public, they have gotten comfortable with show's idealogy and what it potrays.  Plots of those serials themselves don't require any critical thinking or reasoning. Constant nonsense drama, fights, sufferring has made a self-insert show of self valication for it's audience i.e. wifes. Bahus (wives) who are too busy for themselves can gain entertainment through inserting themselves as main character.
